A Filipino domestic worker in Kuwait has accused her employer of hitting her with a baseball bat. In a video, Maricris Matias Ledesma showed her injuries after her employer allegedly beat her with a baseball bat.
Ledesma’s arms, legs and back were covered with bruises, GMA News reported. She can be heard crying while her compatriots treat her wounds. Other Filipinas said she should report the abuse to her agency.
Ledesma’s sister in the Philippines has reported the incident to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. The domestic worker is now in the custody of the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait and is preparing to file a complaint against her employer.
On May 11, the Philippine and Kuwaiti government signed a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure the protection of Filipino workers in Kuwait. However, there are still reports of Filipinos being abused in the country.
