Five children abandoned by their mother last month at Talisay City in Negros Occidental have been rescued by authorities in a malnourished condition following a social media post by a concerned resident.

Officials from the Talisay City Social Welfare and Development Office  found the five children — aged seven, four, three, two and one — living alone at their house in Barangay Linao, GMA News reported. They were malnourished and very thin.

The children’s mother left last month, while their father is away from home most of the time due to work commitments. Felipa Solana, head of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Talisay, said they were not getting proper care due to the absence of their parents.

All five children were taken to the Talisay District Hospital for examinations and treatment and three were reportedly malnourished. Rez Alma Fe Bacaltos, a social worker, said the children were then taken to the Women and Children Development Center, where they were given medicines and vitamins.
