A 29-year-old Bangladeshi man was jailed for six months on Thursday after pleading guilty to one count of molesting a 30-year-old married Indonesian woman in Woodlands, Singapore, in October last year.

The man, who worked as a cleaner with Sembawang Town Council, claimed he was attracted to the woman and wanted to get into a relationship with her, The Straits Times reported.

The court heard that at 11am on October 28, 2017, while the woman was on her way from a nearby market to her employer’s flat in Woodlands, she walked past the man and he asked her to be his girlfriend.

She told him she was married and had no intention of entering into a relationship with him. However, the man followed her into an elevator where he touched the woman’s hair. The maid, who was carrying bags of groceries in both hands, politely asked him to stop.

The man ignored her and then hugged her from behind and molested her. She ran away as soon as the lift doors opened. The maid’s employer was told about the incident and advised her to file a police report.
