Eleven Filipino domestic workers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, who have accused their employers of abusing them, have been seeking help from the Philippine government and asking to be rescued.
The domestic workers claimed their employers had not honored their contracts and confiscated their passports and work permits. They also claimed they were abused and locked inside rooms for mistakes they made, GMA News reported.
Their case has been reported to Hans Leo Cacdac, the administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. Cacdac said officials have contacted the domestic workers and will contact their employers.
“If the workers wish to return home, we will arrange the processing of their exit visas,” Cacdac said.
Cacdac also said the domestic workers’ families will meet with OWWA officials to contact the workers’ employment agency in the Philippines.
