A 58-year-old dump-truck driver was killed in a car crash in Pat Heung in Yuen Long in the New Territories on Tuesday.
A video that appeared on social media on Thursday shows the dump-truck was traveling along Kam Tin Road towards Tai Po but it slowly crossed the double-white lines while starting to make a right turn and crashed into a KMB Route 54 bus in the oncoming lane, news website HK01.com reported.
The 26-second video was taken by a dashboard camera on a private car which was following the dump-truck.
The head-on collision caused the bus to mount the pavement. The windshield of the bus was smashed and portions of rubbish fell from the truck.
The truck driver, surnamed Liu, was knocked unconscious by the crash and pronounced dead after being rushed to a hospital.
The woman bus driver, surnamed Leung, 44, was trapped inside the bus. Two male passengers of African origin saw smoke coming out from the bus and began yelling “Fire, fire” to warn other passengers, then tried to pull Leung out of the vehicle.
Leung, along with the two passengers were sent to hospital for medical treatment.
After viewing the video, Liu’s employer said he suspected the truck driver had concealed an illness which might have caused him to lose consciousness before the collision.
