A sidewalk was flooded on Hong Kong Island when a large water pipe ruptured alongside a busy station on Thursday night, sending a powerful spray as high as eight meters into the air.
The underground pipe burst at a sidewalk outside Wan Chai MTR station in Lockhart Road at 9pm, and the spray almost reached as high as a nearby footbridge, news website HK01.com reported.
A police officer and a shopkeeper tried to stop the water by covering the hole with a rubbish bin, but were unsuccessful, according to a video clip shown on social media.
It took about 50 minutes for the Water Supplies Department to plug the leak.
