Hong Kong police are hunting for two men after their car evaded a roadblock, forcing an officer to draw his gun in Kowloon’s Sham Shui Po area in the early hours of Thursday.
At 1am, when officers from the Kowloon West emergency unit stopped a Honda Civic for inspection at a roadblock on Tai Po Road, the driver suddenly accelerated and took off, Oriental Daily reported. The car then went to Wong Chuk Street and hit a white car before it reached a dead end on Sai Yeung Choi Street North.
Officers arrived as the car was making a U-turn. They shouted a warning, and one of them drew his gun. However, the car did not stop but drove at the police.
The officers dodged the vehicle to avoid being hit. No shots were fired. One officer suffered a leg injury, Apple Daily reported.
The car then drove on the wrong side of Tai Po Road and hit a Mercedes-Benz at the intersection with Shek Kip Mei Street. It then drove toward Lung Cheung Road.
Police later found the Civic on Yiu Tung Street, about 200 meters from the roadblock, but the driver and a male passenger had escaped.
Footage from a surveillance camera at nearby building captured the duo abandoning the car and running away.
Police found that the Civic’s bumper was damaged and the vehicle license had expired. A police dog was called in but no illegal drugs were found.
An initial investigation showed that the Civic had not been reported stolen. Police classified the case as dangerous driving and were hunting for the two suspects.
