From the second half of 2017, almost all mobile phone makers have adopted the concept of AI when releasing new models. However, insiders are calling it mere speculation without substantial improvement in computing capacity, Yicai.com reported.

For example, Samsung says its AI assistant Bixby can complete intelligent translation and exchange rate conversions through its camera. While Huawei’s Honor View 10 is said to carry out deep learning from professional photographers’ viewing and composition experience.

Even the low-key Apple has added a “bionic” gimmick to its chip, saying that it has a neural network engine with 600 billion operations per second.

Huang Yuxuan, a research manager at TrendForce, a Shenzhen-based tech market intelligence provider, says if phone makers truly want to differentiate thier products from other brands, they must invest huge funds in the construction of AI applications.

Huang thinks AI is divided into three levels, including the creation of chips and hardware suitable for AI algorithms, to develop AI intelligence systems, so as to enhance self-learning cognition and computer vision, as well as establishing the ecology of AI applications.
