Hong Kong authorities have received complaints that a public nuisance had been created in Kowloon Park in Tsui Sha Tsui as people have been singing with microphones and loudspeakers on weekends and public holidays.
At times during the past few Sundays, more than 100 people, some of the maids enjoying their days off, had been seen indulging in the noisy practice, singing and dancing, Oriental Daily reported.
Some people were also seen drinking and smoking, which was prohibited inside the park.
At least four loudspeakers were set up in the area linked to a video monitor, which in effect turned the park into a karaoke lounge.
According to a meter that the reporter used to measure the noise level inside the park, the loudspeakers generated 88 decibels when playing music and reached as high as 93.5 decibels when someone grabbed the microphone and sang.
In a normal conservation, the sound level ranges from 40 to 60 decibels. But constant exposure to more than 80 decibels can cause temporary hearing loss if not treated immediately.
Kwan Sau-ling, a member of Yau Tsim Mong District Council, received a number of complaints over the noise pollution inside the park. Some residents also worried about public security in the district.
Law Wai-yan, manager of the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society, said noise generated by the loudspeakers would affect the bird species living inside the park.
An official with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department said tht according to the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance, people could sing and dance inside a leisure establishment and staff would not intervene if it did not cause a nuisance.
The official added that last Sunday, the staff had issued verbal warnings three times to one group that their music was too loud.

Mia Romadhon Kartie It is you racist, try to find another country like Hong Kong, and compare how they treat the foreign workers

I’m so lucky to have a good employer who gives me a private room where I can rest but how about those who doesn’t have any room where they are allowed to stay during their day off? Dba kramihan satin to mas gusto nlang mag stay sa park pravmkapag rest ksa mag stay sa bhay ng amo dhil drain cla makapag paying a.
Clarissa Jane Fernie Gafoor you are not updated then.try to make a research pls
Jeanette Martinez the park is for everybody …my point is based in mowwn expeienced. One time i went with my friend that are to enjoy the place and brought some snacks and santed to seat down for sometime but some kababayan really2x rude and nakikipag away pa pilit kami pinaalis dahil kanila daw ang pwesto matagal na at was very embarassing kasi kasi ko friend ko tourist here at nagulat sy.
I should say in Japan and another part of Europe fdh are not live in helper.
Ma’am the problem is not fdh only but the government’s policy of fdh in other country like in japan and another part of Europe fdh has their own place to stay they are living in helper whereas here in HK that is not allowed but instead they open the park for fdh to become a free space to rest so what do you expect? Of course like every normal people who want to enjoy their limited time spent together with their friends that’s what going to happen so maybe its time for the government to amend its policy about fdh because for as much as you don’t like to see us occupying the park like squatters we also don’t like to be there if only we have better choice.
90% abusing the freedom here in hk.
Every park now a days look like residential. They own the space. The fight for space. If u go tgere early and set peacefully and enjoying your freedom then suddenly some will come and ask you to leave because its their space long time ago. That’s the problem of some foriegn workers.
Park is for everyone racis

Got it! But how could we understand if news about locals who have done wrong are usually written in Chinese characters or said in their language? Unless you are a Linguist, then you could understand..
Make sense. When it comes to dh doing something, there are so many complaints…… Got it? T. N. G.
