A 25-year-old Hong Kong man accused of indecently assaulting a six-year-old girl inside a men’s toilet appeared at the District Court on Monday, Oriental Daily reported.

The man was accused of luring the young girl into a toilet with candies in a Tseung Kwan O shopping mall in the New Territories.

Li Kin Chung, who went to university in Taiwan, was charged with one count of indecent assault. According to a video interview, the court heard that on August 28 last year, the girl and her nine-year-old brother went with their Filipina domestic worker to a playground at Metro City in Tseung Kwan O.

The court was told that the man approached the girl in a playground, gave her candies and took her to a men’s toilet and allegedly indecently assaulted her. The domestic worker told the court she could not find the girl for about 10 minutes in the playground.

When she saw the girl and the man return to the playground, the maid noticed the girl looked unhappy and frightened. When she returned home the girl said she did not want to go to the playground anymore. The young girl finally told her family what had happened and they called the police.

The defendant later turned himself in at the Tseung Kwan O police station after police launched a manhunt. The girl identified Li during an identification parade.

The trial continues on Tuesday.
