A man has pleaded not guilty to beating his Filipina girlfriend to death with a hammer in the American state of Nevada earlier this year.

Willie Bain, 42, is alleged to have attacked Crystal Lyn Felipe, 42, his girlfriend of 11 years, at their home in Las Vegas on February 17. Bain had accused Felipe of cheating on him, ABS-CBN News reported.

After hitting Felipe with a hammer Bain is alleged to have driven her to a casino parking lot in the city of Henderson, 16 miles southeast of Las Vegas, where he called the police. Bain told them he struck Felipe after they argued and he did not know whether she was still alive.

Police recovered a hammer covered in blood from Bain’s vehicle. Felipe died due to multiple blunt force injuries to the head and her death was ruled a homicide.

Bain was denied bail and ordered to remain in jail after pleading not guilty at the District Court of Nevada on April 27. His trial will resume in August.
