A domestic worker was accused of stealing a can of abalone at her employer’s home in North Point on Hong Kong Island on Wednesday.

At 10am, a 74-year-old woman reported to the police that a can of abalone, which she claimed was expensive, that had been stored in her apartment at Wilshire Tower on Tin Hau Temple Road was missing, Oriental Daily reported.

The elderly woman suspected that her maid had stolen the seafood.

Officers went to the apartment to investigate the alleged crime but no one was immediately arrested.

The report did not disclose the nationality of the domestic worker.

According to a local supermarket website, a can of abalone costs between HK$200 and HK$600 (US$25-$76) depending on the brand.
