A magistrate has rejected applications for bail from two of five Filipino tourists arrested for alleged attempted theft.
On Thursday, Eastern Magistrates’ Court heard that five tourists from the Philippines were arrested on April 24 after they tried but failed to steal a wallet from a Korean woman at an MTR train station on Hong Kong Island, sunwebhk.com reported.
The Korean woman said she felt someone tugging at her wallet but the pickpockets failed because her wallet was secured by a chain to her bag.
Plainclothes police who were nearby arrested the five alleged thieves.
On Thursday, four of the defendants – Rasim Linambos, Arlene Gerodias, Manuelito Camacho and Delia Neri – appeared in court while the fifth defendant, Zenaida Aviles, was absent because she was in hospital.
Defendants Linambos and Gerodias applied for bail but magistrate Peter Law rejected their applications.
The case was adjourned until May 24 and they were remanded in custody.

Since I came here in 1989 that’s the common case of Filipino tourist in HK. Ang nakakahiya marami sa kanila ang balik balik sa kulungan. Ung Drug case lng kasi ang may ban for life dito sa Hl after na makulng at makalaya ang drug trafficker. Minsan nagsasawa na rin akong bumisita kasi parang nakakaloko na lng.
