A 35-year-old former Filipina maid who was accused of stealing cash from a commercial office in Central on Hong Kong Island is ready to plead guilty to a charge of burglary.

Defendant Rachel B Rosimo, who was said to be a clerk, trespassed in the Sante Barley Ltd office in Lansing House (room 1003) on Queen’s Road in Central, on an unspecified date and allegedly made off with HK$180,000 (US$22,934) in cash, reported, with the help of other unknown people.

Rosimo first appeared in Eastern Court, charged with burglary and a count of breaching the conditions of her stay. But the case was moved to the District Court because of the serious nature of the charges.

The charge for the immigration offense was added after investigators discovered that Rosimo had worked as a domestic helper in Hong Kong, then remained illegally after her contract was prematurely terminated.

The judge ordered Rosimo to return to court on September 5 to say how she will plead. Rosimo did not apply for bail, so she has been kept in police custody.
