Two teenage Filipino boys have been praised by American singer Mariah Carey for their rendition of her song “Hero” on YouTube.
Carey appeared on Glamour magazine’s YouTube series called You Sang My Song, where famous singers react to various renditions of their songs sung by fans across the world, ABS-CBN News reported.
In February 2014, Aldrich Talonding, who was 15 at the time, and James Bucong, 19, performed their rendition of Carey’s song “Hero” and uploaded a video on YouTube. At the time, Aldrich was a high-school student at Mindanao State University in the Philippines.
Aldrich sang while James played the guitar. Their performance was one of the performances watched in the latest episode to You Sang My Song on May 23 this year.
“Aldrich and James, I loved the rendition. Amazing,” Carey said after watching the duo’s performance toward the end of the episode.
In September 2013, the duo appeared on US talk show Ellen after their rendition of “Dance with My Father Again” by Luther Vandross went viral, which has almost 8 million views on YouTube.
Talonding said in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that the song had more meaning for him when his father died after becoming a viral success.
