A 45-year-old Indian businessman has been cleared of molestation charges by a Dubai court due to a lack of evidence after he was accused of kissing a Filipino jobseeker.

The incident happened in January when the businessman called the Filipino for an interview at his company. The woman was asked to prepare a cup of coffee when the man allegedly hugged her from behind, kissed her cheek and molested her, Gulf News reported.

She claimed she shouted at the man and he let her go. She reported the incident to police, who then summoned the man for questioning.

On March 28 at the Dubai Court of First Instance, the man was accused of molestation and pleaded not guilty. A policeman, who questioned the defendant, said the accused admitted he had molested the jobseeker and tried to offer her a job at his company if she dropped the complaint.

However on Wednesday, the defendant was cleared of the molestation charge after his legal representative told the court the woman fabricated the molestation claims. The defendant’s lawyer said the Filipino, who did not appear in court, had signed a handwritten confession to drop the molestation claims after taking money.
