Maria Simorangkir, 16, became the youngest winner of Indonesia’s Idol when she took the top prize on April 23. Simorangkir won the 9th season of Indonesian Idol, a reality television singing competition that started in 2004, and won 150 million rupiah  (US$10, 814) and a brand new car, The Jakarta Post reported.

At a press conference held the following day at Ancol Dreamland Park in North Jakarta, Simorangkir said she will use the money to study in Singapore. She hopes to become a music producer in the future, reported.

The competition’s judges, Judika, Armand Maulana, Maia Estianty, Buna Citra Lestari and Ari Lasso, praised Simorangkir’s powerful voice.

On April 9, Simorangkir sang I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston, which won her a spot in the competition’s grand final. During the grand final on April 16, Simorangkir sang My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion.

On April 23, she sang her rendition of Stand Up for Love by Destiny’s Child. All three of her performances had more than 10 million views on YouTube.
