Police are looking for a driver who crashed into another vehicle outside a shopping mall, accelerated into a bus stop on the pavement and then fled in Kowloon’s Lam Tin late on Saturday.

The driver was found slumped in a black Nissan Cefiro by firemen responding to an accident involving another car and a taxi outside Kai Tin Shopping Center on Kai Tin Road at 11pm, Oriental Daily said.

According to video footage captured by passers-by and uploaded to social media, the Nissan driver suddenly “woke up” and crashed the vehicle into the car in front, then turned into the opposite lane.

The Nissan accelerated onto the pavement, traveling for about 100 meters until it crashed into a bus stop; there were a number of people at the stop, but none was hurt. Returning to the roadway, the car left in the direction of Kwun Tong.

Police said that the incident was being treated as a hit-and-run.

Meanwhile, the 65-year-old taxi driver and the 23-year-old driving the car that were involved in the initial crash were both unhurt.
