Pakistani policymakers’ myopic thinking that helped Bengalis to establish Bangladesh is once again taking a wrong turn. The state institutions seem reluctant to observe and review the demands of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), which are purely constitutional and very basic in nature. The demands are the basics of the first 20 articles of the constitution of Pakistan.
The PTM, led by Manzoor Ahmad Pashteen, is making only five demands: clearing of landmines, recovery of missing persons (whose number is in the thousands), an end to discrimination against Pashtuns (profiling), a judicial commission on extrajudicial killing of Pashtuns, and penalization of Rao Anwar, former senior superintendent in the Karachi police’s encounter department, who has been accused in the extrajudicial killing of a Pashtun shopkeeper.
For the last four decades, Pakistan has faced undefined and so-called jihad against communism (1980s), the “war on terror” and the Taliban. FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) was made a safe haven for jihadist proxies to fight the US war against the Soviets in Afghanistan, to the detriment of Pakistan. The tribal Pashtuns who were made zealous to fight for the dignity of Islam and the Koran are now the victims of the Taliban.
After the terrorist attacks on the US in September 2001, the security dilemma helped Pakistani policymakers, strategists, dramatists, artists and filmmakers profile Pashtuns as extremists or terrorists. This provided leverage for the authorities to arrest, investigate and torture tens of thousands of Pashtuns for “security” reasons. To be Pashtun is to be suspected in almost every corner of the country.
We haven’t learned from history; we profiled Bengalis as ungrateful and tried to suppress their just and democratic right to form government, which led to disintegration of the country and the establishment of Bangladesh.
Banning media from giving coverage to public PTM gatherings is another issue that represents the fragile approach of the Pakistani civil-military leadership to understanding issues related to the nation’s ethnic integrity and prosperity. In this global village, media are the fourth pillar of the state and the significant source to give voice to those who are in search of justice, rights and security. Neither of the private media channels gave coverage to any public gathering of the PTM in Quetta and Peshawar.
The security agencies have also removed published articles in The News on Sunday, The Daily Times and Dawn newspapers. Pakistan’s top television station Geo News was banned for two days for giving short coverage to PTM’s public gathering in Peshawar. This is unfair. Keeping media away from PTM’s public gatherings is unjust and wrong.
The Pakistani establishment is wrongly trying to stigmatize Manzoor Ahmed Pashteen and the PTM. It is wrong to smear the PTM with such labels as anti-Pakistan, anti-Pashtun, pro-Indian and pro- NDS (Afghan National Directorate of Security).
Policy options
Pakistan is already grappling with a number of issues, economic, security, political, religious, social and ethnic. In this regard, the poor and unwise thinking and approaches of top civil-military leaders can never be in favor of an ethnically stable Pakistan. The following policy options need to be reviewed by competent civil and military authorities in order to avoid any possible untoward incidents.
First, the chief justice of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar, should immediately order the establishment of a judicial commission on missing persons. Any negligence in this regard can add fuel to the fire of the grievances of Pashtuns.
Second, the prime minister of Pakistan and Chief of Army Staff must take notice of Pashtun profiling, discrimination against Pashtuns for security reasons and unnecessary searches at checkpoints and midnight raids in tribal areas in FATA. The federal government should take strict notice of Pashtun profiling in security rehearsals, and the depiction of Pashtuns in films and dramas. Pakistan is a state where all ethnic groups are the real strength of the country. Misrepresentation of any ethnic group will disintegrate the state on all levels.
Third, the media should be allowed to provide just coverage to all public gatherings of the PTM in order to give a sense of the provision and practice of all basic rights as defined by the constitution of Pakistan. Media coverage will help Pakistanis understand the pain and demands of Pashtuns in the right way.
Finally, the civil-military leadership should invite Manzoor Pashteen and his team for immediate meetings and negotiations on the demands presented by the PTM. Access to negotiation and discussion on issues is the finest way to stabilize the country in all areas.
Humsaiya Daish I will see to it that this bastardy of nasty existance come to an end. I am working many such patriots that are undermining the police state, up yours.
Mohammed Hakeem perhaps you should ask the Indian Army why they attacked Hyderabad state and made you guys homeless and your parents had to migrate towards Pakistan’s karachi ! Nuff said !
Saifullah Jan I am not a stupid ! I keep an eye on my country ! Nuff said !
Mohammed Hakeem dude, yeh jo deshatgardi hai is k peechey Americi fauj k jootey, Hindustani fauj ki bullet proof jacket or Afghani fauj ki wardi hai. Even if you are a Pakistani then you are a victim of enemies of hybrid warfare and therefore you should buy a good jacket to protect yourself because you are a very easy target.
Mohammed Hakeem powerful testimony. Thank you for sharing.
Mohammed Hakeem ٰMany thanks for the detailed background information, which, inter alia, also deals with the dismemberment of Pakistan.
In my personal view, there are dozens and dozens of FB sites, which are covertly backed by Imam-ul-Waqt Hazrat ISPR, who regards every Hassas Pakistani as an Urdu-wala DG (D for Dehshat and G for Gard) having links with RAW, NDS, CIA, MI6, Mossad etc.. The major-general purpose of these sites appears to incite people in order to gain as much information as possible from them, which help them in preparing periodical reports on the prevailing trends among the Pakistanis, that are submitted to their high ups.
And this "Humsaiya Daish" also appears one of them.
If we translate these two words i.e. “Humsaiya Daish”, it would mean "the Neighbour of Daish or Dayesh or ISIS.
The two links that I am forwarding to you contain remarks made by (i) Major Amer, a former star intelligence officer of the ISI and (ii) our former Ambassador to Afghanistan, Rustam Shah Mohmand, who has also served as Chief Secretary KPK as well as High Commissioner of Refugees. He is now more than 70 years old. Regards

Mohammed Hakeem powerful riposte Mr Hakeem. And very intrigued to read of a witness account to what is only read about on websites. Thank you for that personal insight.
Saifullah Jan Mr. Jan, you can spot ’em, congratulations. He won’t reply to me, after declaring me to be an Afghan-Indian terrorist, funny; for I am by birth a Karachite from Sindh born to Indian migrants who had move from Mysore-Banglore area in the early ’50s. My parents met and married in Karachi I was the 2nd born son on Nov. 1956. which makes me a 61 years old man. My late father was a Pakistan Navey Officer and my late mother a girls high-school headmistress, they devoted their lives to the well being of their fellow countrymen.
In the year 1969 when the capital city was moved to Islamabad my father was transfered out to the port city of Chittagong and there he stayed, that is until the conflagration of ’71 and then thanks to his friendships with the locals he was spared by the hostile Bangali Mukti-Bahinis whe were looking to exact revenge on all those outrages perpatrated on them by the West-Pakistani soldiers, but my father survived and was handed safely to the Indian authorities who took him in as a POW to be placed in Camp #99 in the city of Allahabad. There he stayed until 1973. He was a changed man, occasionally I would catch his accounts of the horrors perpetrated by the Pakistani solders on the Poor Bangalis.
I had asked my mother, how she felt about her beloved new country of the remaining Pakistan, or would she consder it even Pakistan, I was 14: she’d nodded her head in dismay and said "Son Pakistan is no more." I knew I had to get out of here, we have very sick people I had been planning to bail ever since I was 9, I thought the West was vibrant and I wanted to pursue education in the true sense of the word, full emersion, and the West was beconning. The year my father had arrived or repatriated I was in the process of leaving on students’ visa to Canada. And finally I left home on Jan. 15, 1975 soon after turning 18, from Karachi to Montreal. Since then I have only been back once, in 1981 and had stayed there almost a year with my aging parents and returned back to the US where I am a citizen and respected; as such, married with children. I should say the best decision I ever made.
And now this clown, paid lacky of the Army Cabal that is hell bent on owning the free tribal peoples and I intend to be a big thorn on their side and make their life as miserable as I can possibly make. This man neither care nor know the depth of darkness that his country’s future is rerlegated where children have no prospects of ever realizing their God given potential, but this fellow here has a job to undermine the truth seekers. Thanks for reading.
Mohammed Hakeem While I respect your views, you could have done what you have already done or doing these days without leaving Islam “for good”.
Sorry this is something personal to you but keeping in view your rich knowledge of world affairs and your background, I wish you return to Islam even at this belated stage of your life.
So far as our future as a nation (if applicable) is concerned, pls go through the contents of this article titled “blood borders” written 12 years ago by a retired lieutenant colonel of u.s. army, mr. ralph peters which had appeared on the website of u.s. armed forces journal on ist june 2006.
After reading, you will realize that “things” are marching forward, more or less, according to its contents, which, to a large extent, also “coincide” with your views.
On Ist June 2006 (more than 12 years ago), a write-up titled “Blood Borders” appeared on the official website of the U.S. Armed Forces Journal which was written by Ralph Peters, a retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel and author. Peters is perhaps best known in the media for his appearances on Fox News. .” Link to the article: http://armedforcesjournal.com/blood-borders/
Peters’ 1997 article "Constant Conflict”, inter alia, stated: "There will be no peace. At any given moment for the rest of our lifetimes, there will be multiple conflicts in mutating forms around the globe. Violent conflict will dominate the headlines, but cultural and economic struggles will be steadier and ultimately more decisive. The de facto role of the US armed forces will be to keep the world safe for our economy and open to our cultural assault. To those ends, we will do a fair amount of killing.
His June 2006 article primarily focusses on “broader Middle East”, which also includes Pakistan, about which he is “pleased” to conclude as follows “What Afghanistan would lose to Persia in the west, it would gain in the east, as Pakistan’s Northwest Frontier tribes would be reunited with their Afghan brethren (the point of this exercise is not to draw maps as we would like them but as local populations would prefer them). Pakistan, another unnatural state, would also lose its Baluch territory to Free Baluchistan. The remaining "natural" Pakistan would lie entirely east of the Indus, except for a westward spur near Karachi
Col Peters regards the present day Pakistan as an “unnatural state” while his “natural” Pakistan, which excludes Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA, has been shown in the attached map devised by him.
In June 2006, when his article initially appeared, the situation in the Middle East was not as grim as it is today. For example, Iraq, according to his forecast, now appears divided, perhaps irreversibly, between Arab Shia State, Sunni Iraq and Free Kurdistan. Syria has already been destroyed beyond repairs – thanks to the United States, Russia, Bashar Al-Asad regime, ISIS, Irani Pasdarans, Kurd fighters, Hizbollah, Iraqi Shia militia Hashd al-Shaabi, Fatimiyoon (Afghan Shia militia), Zainabiyoon (Pakistani Shia militia) as well as various Sunni groups.
The next two states, which appear to be in the line of fire, might be Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Keeping in view the eminent dangers we are obliged to confront from our immediate neighborhood and beyond, it becomes all the more necessary that our state of preparedness/vigilance should be at par with that of Israel. However, the ڈنگ ٹپاؤ and حلوہ پکاؤ policies pursued by us, particularly since 9/11, have made us extremely vulnerable
The US-led War against Terror, which we have been fighting on her behalf, has entered its 17th year while the combined duration of first and second world wars comes to 10 years, 3 months and 16 days. In view of the colossal losses (both men and material) that we have sustained since 9/11, now is the opportune time to launch a War against Errors (instead of Terror) giving a much-needed healing touch to the badly injured souls. Doing so would also be in line with the recent announcement made by the U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis on U.S. military strategy to the effect that countering China’s rapidly expanding military and an increasingly aggressive Russia are now the main focus of America’s national security, outpacing the threat of terrorism. The authoritative way of your wiriting suggests as if you are not an ordinary commentator but someone who is working in the Military Intelligence Dte of GHQ. Just let me know, which of the following two started first in Pakistan post 9/11: (i) State Terrorism or (ii) Terrorism?
Given below is a link to the ‘supplementary report’ of Hamood ur Rehman Commission. Pls read it thoroughly in the light of your your observations. It is very unfortuante that the main report as well as the supplementary report continue to remain as closely-guarded documents. These are neither available on the websites and facebook sites of GHQ, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs because چور کی ڈاڑھی میں تنکا بلکہ چور کی ڈاڑھی میں وٹہ http://img.dunyanews.tv/images/docss/hamoodur_rahman_commission_report.pdf
Humsaiya Daish Yea jo Dehshatgerdi hai iskay peechay verdi hai! Yea jo abductions of thousands of people across Zombistan fron Karachi to Chitral iskay peechay bhi verdi hai. Poor mothers with vacant looks seen wondering around all over with streaks of dried tears holding their young sons’ photographs, this will not fair well. It appears the Army has forgotten the lessons the Bangalis had taught them 47 years ago. This bastardy can’t last more than 5 years, or tops the next 10. Thank you. I’m a son of Pakistan Naval Officer born in Karachi, now late, father later went on to become a POW with 90 thousand others in India’s custoddy; and upon arrival told me in 1973, returning from Allahabad camp #99, the eye-witness account of our solders’ bravery as they killed 3 million Bangalis and tens of thousands Bangali women raped. Within two years of his return, on Jan 15 1975 at the age of 18 I was off to America never to return to that godforesaken country, left Islam for good, and now expend my energies to free Sindhudesh. You got that, before hurling your stupid insults. Goodbye.
Rohit Pandeya Try to stabilize India on Southern side; on part of Tamil Nadoos. Its our domestic issue.
Hakeem, says an Indian-Afghan Terrorist.
Don’t discuss Bengali’s… they fought for India not for their rights. Pashtuns have their own government, police & parliament. They are allowed to speak their language and the Pashtun community in Pakistan Army isn’t the second largest.
Check posts can’t be reduced unless the border with Afghanistan is fenced. Missing people are receiving terrorist training in Afghanistan. As for Rao Anwar, he has been arrested. Terrorists are deploying land mines in tribal areas and land mines are coming from Afghanistan.
Excellent piece of writing that covers the entire picture admirably and concludes with proper advice to follow.
My only argument is after forty years of Army usurpation of all authority and power of the nation unto themselves there is no conceivalbe way possible that Mr. Rahim Nasar’s sound advice will be heeded or recieved at all by the Army Cabal Inc. for that culture permeates and is as though its lifeblood which should be looked at as the fundamental nature of a thing. The Army will never concede to giving an inch of the ground and share in power with any of the provincials. In fact it’s their raison d’etre to keep things in high turmoil to justify their strangelhold on the polity; for calm peaceful waters would make their stranglehold on the polity look ridiculous and thus a moot point.
Secondly, all the customary and usual branches so typical to the Parliamentry form of government: Executive, Legislature. and Judiaciary are for the show to please the paymasters in the Washington D.C. as if Pakistan (really "Zombistan") is a democracy. Which is just a front, like elephants’ tusks for the show, the teeth that matter is the Army Cabal Inc. Not only that they exert and exercise full control over the press, they employ them as so many writers on the payroll, any cowboys meet with beatings or worse.
Lastly, the mullah ("Clericks") they keep the Muslims under the spell of the Kryptonite, make them go weak or aginst the minorities i.e. the Hundu, the Christians, the Qadianis (really Ahmedis) just to keep them all juiced up. Islam being the Achilis heel of the Muslims, they are easily managed.
Mr. Nasar is right that there’s the same strategem underway that had made Bangladesh possible, and I fully expect that history will repeat and we’ll see: a) Sindhudesh (my own state) b) Balochistan, c) Pakhtunistan and that would leave Punjab, they are, of course, welcome to call themselves Pakistan but I have a nasty feeling that it would opt for calling themselves Punjabistan.
Thus four to five provinces out of Zombistan would make regiom quite peaceful even desirable without ever needing a standing Army, a source of so much bloodshed (once bitten twice shy) so a happy future indeed, and I have a feeling Mullahs will have gone extinct by that time, like leoprosy in the after math. With those happy thoughts I bid you peace.
