Videos of Chinese diners grasping for food have gone viral again, showing scrums of people in a clubhouse in Nanchang jostling for whatever dishes come out of the kitchen before food even lands on buffet tables.
The clips were taken last week when the Han Soup Korean-style spa and dining clubhouse in the capital of eastern Jiangxi province was inundated with customers after it advertised a spa-dinner set for just 58 yuan (US$9).
Initially, the manager expected a modest turnout and prepared food for some 300 people, but the boss was soon panicked by a long queue of enthusiastic diners lining all the way from his counter to the pavement outside.
As more diners poured in, lines of food containers remained empty as any leftovers were quickly swept up by latecomers.
Before long many started to gather outside the kitchen, waiting in ambush to nab whatever food the waiters would carry out.

After videos of Nanchang diners shoveling down buffet food drew much criticism, the manager of the SPA house took the blame and apologized for their poor preparation and his underestimate of customer turnout.
But the clips have added to the tarnished reputation of mainland Chinese diners, whose boorish behavior at home and abroad has long caused them to be seen as sometimes lacking etiquette.
Earlier, a video of frenzied Chinese tourists using plates to scoop up shrimp, while leaving much of their food untouched, at a buffet restaurant in Thailand – allegedly in 2016 – also attracted much ridicule and flak.

Behavior is truth.
One wonders if this is how the countries along the "Silk Road/Belt" are viewed by Beijing. Just ‘inferior’ peoples who are to be consumed.
Maybe it should be called the:
絲手铐和漏斗路
Sī shǒukào hé lòudǒu lù
Silk Handcuff and Funnel Road.
Or the
漢人“吃東西”的道路
Hànrén “chī dōngxī” de dàolù
The Han People "will eat everything" road
This is about culture not race. A culture in which swinishness, gluttony, greed, and hordism/mobism/Borgism manifest easily.
"Borgism"….. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg_(Star_Trek)
Thats the problem with people who dont go out much. From this new article, you conclued the Chinese from China is like this. Actually most Asians are like this. Even in Singapore this used to happen until the management fined people who had unfinished food on their plates. You can probably still see some of the signs. In other parts of Asia, they actually eith bring plastic bags or tiffins to smuggle out food. This comes from societies who has experienced hardship and want, something we cant expect you to understand. In time, this will change.
KS Chin I lived there for 10 years. I’ll concede two things: the swinish behavior is not universal and some of it is the product of severe poverty. I’ll note that I saw no signs of any lessening of public boorishness and the not-quite-universal-lack of consideration of others remained high levels. Lines became mobs way too easily.. cheers
And on a slightly different manifestation of the fairly prevalent Han cultural attitutude of "we are a special people" the racism/colorism/ethnicism/bigotry against non-whites, Tibetans and Xinjiang people was, though not violently manifested, certainly prevalent and charmingly unhidden. Different from the lynching-style of some Americans. Cheers.
