Three foreign domestic workers have been charged with theft after allegedly taking jewelry worth 300,000 dirhams (US$81,688) from their employer’s home in the United Arab Emirates.

The employer filed a complaint against the workers — two from the Philippines and one from India — after she discovered some jewelry was missing from her bedroom safe, Khaleej Times reported.

Police arrested the workers when they found alcoholic drinks in their cupboard, but the trio denied the theft allegation when they appeared in Sharjah Criminal Court on Monday. The following day they all changed their pleas to guilty.

The case was adjourned until April 16. Police did not say whether the jewelry had been recovered.
