A 44-year-old domestic worker from the Philippines was found dead at her employer’s home in North Point on Hong Kong Island early this month.

Mary Jane Respicio Jamon was found collapsed inside an apartment on Cloud View Road in North Point and pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived on April 4, sunwebhk.com reported.

Her employer’s family were reportedly out of town and they tried to call her because they wanted to be picked up at the airport, but couldn’t reach the maid.

The female employer then called her father, asked him to go to the apartment and check if the maid was all right.

The old man found the door locked so he called the police. Officers arrived, broke the door open and found the maid’s body on the toilet floor.

After an initial investigation, officers did not suspect foul play. They suspect that Jamon collapsed just after having a pee as she was not able to flush the toilet.

Jamon had been working for the family for six years and had just signed a fourth employment contract with them. She went home for a vacation last year with her husband and a five-year-old adopted child.

Jamon’s aunt Alona V. Agustin, who also works in Hong Kong, said a public viewing of the deceased domestic worker will be held on April 26 (Thursday) before her remains are sent home on a Philippine Airlines flight the following morning to her home in Ilocos Norte, a province in the northern Philippines.

However, officers at the Consulate’s assistance to nationals section and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Hong Kong said on Friday that the final schedule was not yet known because undertaker Tim Fook Funeral had yet to hand repatriation papers to the consulate.
