Two Malaysian Chinese were arrested by customs officers at Shenzhen Bay Control Point on Wednesday for allegedly trying to smuggle illegal drugs worth HK$4.7 million (US$598,722) into Hong Kong.
The men, with the surnames Wong and Yu, behaved suspiciously when their seven-seater vehicle underwent a customs clearance at the border wth mainland China at 9pm, Oriental Daily reported. Officers found 4.8 kilograms of a drug, which was believed to be heroin.
The drug shipment was in 20 packets concealed on the men. Some was in false compartments in their shoes, while the rest was wrapped around their calves and thighs with adhesive tape and taped to the abdomen of one of the men, according to a government release.
It is understood that the two young men flew into Guangzhou in China on Tuesday from Malaysia and went straight to Shenzhen. The following day they tried to cross into Hong Kong. Officers also detained the 30-year-old local male driver as part of their enquiries.
