Hong Kong police say they arrested a total of 50 people and busted four gambling dens and one drug den during various surprise operations in Kowloon that began on Saturday.

Officers from the West Kowloon District Anti Triad Squad raided an apartment on Jordan Road in Yau Ma Tei and arrested three men and seven women, aged between 24 and 51, for alleged illegal gambling and possession of weapons, Sing Tao Daily reported.

Two Filipino women and a Pakistani man were among those arrested in the apartment.

Officers said they confiscated two fishing gambling machines, one knife, four steel water pipes, a card reader and 29 gambling cards in the establishment. They believed the den was controlled by a triad organization.

On Sunday, another team of the anti-triad squad busted a gambling establishment hidden inside a game center on Pei Ho Street in Sham Shui Po.

Twelve men and three women aged between 23 and 66 were arrested for allegedly operating a gambling establishment, working as staff, or actually gambling, while three fishing gambling machines, HK$65,000 (US$8,280) cash and a number of gambling cards were seized.

Police believe that the gambling den had been operating for a month and was controlled by a triad organization.

Police also arrested 23 men and two women and seized around HK$100,000 in cash and betting chips during three raids in Sau Mau Ping, Tsim Sha Tsui and Sham Shui Po on Saturday night.

Suspected illegal drugs with an estimated market value of HK$14,000 were also seized during the raids.
