Two Filipino domestic workers charged with using falsified documents while applying for a visa to work in the UK were allegedly victims of an illegal recruitment scam.
Criselda Bantasan and Cristy Par were charged on March 15 at Eastern Magistrates’ Court with conspiracy to use copies of false instruments after applying for a work visa to the UK nearly two years ago, sunwebhk.com reported.
Bantasan went to the UK Visa Application Centre in Causeway Bay on April 1 in 2016 and applied for a work visa using falsified documents. Bantasan said she conspired with a woman called ‘Ms Chan’ and other unknown people to submit the documents.
On May 30, 2016, Par also applied for a work visa to the UK and submitted falsified documents. She also conspired with Ms Chan to have her documents prepared.
Their case was transferred to the District Court in Wan Chai. Police are currently investigating Ms Chan and a group of people who have allegedly assisted domestic workers in applying for work visas.
