A 44-year-old woman was bound over to keep the peace for five years after attacking and seriously injuring her maid with a kitchen knife and other items.

On Thursday in Petaling Jaya’s Sessions Court, Rozita Mohamad Ali pleaded guilty to causing serious harm to 19-year-old Indonesian maid Suyanti Sutrinso. She had initially been charged with attempted murder, to which she pleaded not guilty, the Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia) reported.

The court heard that on Dec. 21 last year the maid, Rozita Mohamad Ali, had been attacked at a house in Mutiara Damansara with a kitchen knife, clothes hanger, steel mop and umbrella. Sutrinso suffered multiple injuries to her eyes, both legs, hands and internal organs.

Sutrinso managed to escape and was later rescued by a security guard and residents in the neighborhood. She was sent to hospital in a life-threatening condition and found to have a broken scapula, injuries to her right lung, a blood clot near her brain and a fracture to her cheek.

Having had the charges against her downgraded from attempted murder, Ali pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a bind-over order for five years with a surety of 20,000 ringgits (US$5,100).
