A 33-year-old female tutor who had just been released from jail was arrested again on Wednesday for allegedly obtaining property by deception.
The woman was arrested as she impersonated a schoolteacher and called some parents, asking them to hire her as a private English tutor for their children, the Oriental Daily reported.
The parents of three students from primary six to secondary four who live in Tin Shui Wai in the New Territories employed her as a private tutor and paid HK$200 to HK$250 an hour in tuition fees. She was paid a total of HK$3,500.
However, one of the parents became suspicious and after checking with the school discovered the woman was impersonating one of the school’s teachers. The parent called police on Wednesday.
The woman, who was diagnosed with a mental illness, was jailed in 2013 for fraud and in 2015 for the use of a false instrument. She was sentenced to jail for a second time for stealing money from students, parents and domestic workers and obtaining property by deception shortly after she was released from jail in 2015, the Sing Tao Daily reported.
This time she was released from jail in mid-February.
