A 16-year-old female student was killed on Wednesday night after plunging from the building where she lived at Kwai Chung in the New Territories. Initial reports indicate that she may have jumped.

A security guard found the girl, still dressed in her school uniform, on the patio at Block 3 in Kwai Chung Plaza and contacted police at  10:52pm, Sing Tao Daily reported. Badly injured and unconscious, she was pronounced dead after paramedics had arrived.

Police said the girl lived on the 20th floor of the plaza with her family and an initial investigation suggested she had jumped from one of the flats. No suicide note was found in the area.

There was nobody in the flat when police arrived, news website HK01.com reported, adding that the girl’s mother only found out about her death when she returned home at 2am.

Foul play is not suspected, but the cause of death will not be determined until an autopsy has been conducted.
