A Filipino domestic worker in Saudi Arabia was rescued by Philippine government officials from an abusive employer after she tried to commit suicide.
A Facebook post on Monday afternoon by Evelyn Motol Cha, who has worked in Riyadh for one year and nine months, went viral with more than 17,000 shares.
In the post, Cha said her employer physically abused her and called her names, Definitely Filipino Buzz reported.
Cha said she was forced to clean her employer’s three houses and her tasks were more fitting for a male worker. She tried to commit suicide by slashing her wrist because she could not endure the abuse anymore.
She pleaded for help to bring her home to the Philippines.
On Tuesday evening, Ariel Ignacio, administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), posted on Facebook that Cha had been rescued from her employer by their ‘team’ in Riyadh.
The welfare official said they would help to send Cha back to the Philippines.
