A number of Singapore residents from the Boon Keng area have complained about crowds of foreign domestic and migrant workers gathering on Sundays and blocking covered walkways, particularly on rainy days.
A 39-year-old woman from the area recently wrote to the Shin Min Daily News, complaining that on Sundays or holidays more than 100 maids gathered around Kallang MRT Station.
“During rainy days they have occupied the covered walkways, making other passers-by hard to get through,” she said, adding that maids and migrant workers were often seen snuggling up together in public, which she considered “embarrassing”.
She said she hoped the government would put up signs to stop people gathering along the pavements.
Meanwhile, a 70-year-old housewife told a reporter that maids and migrant workers often had picnics or played games on the lawn, which did not affect the neighborhood in her opinion.
“If it was raining, they would wait at the covered walkways or the ground floor of HDB buildings. It was understandably more noisy, but they did not cause much trouble as they usually leave in the evening,” she added.
A 65-year-old retiree also commented, saying there was no problem as everyone should be entitled to use public space. The retiree added that the workers should be able to enjoy their free time once a week.
An 80-year-old man also noted that the maids were very responsible and tidied up the place before they left.
That’s true and that is public it’s not private my dear complainant
Y should be jailed. The employer hit first the maid
Wherever you go there are always good and considerate people with sence of humanity, forgive those hypocrite as if they are only people entitled to public places.
They’re Maids & Migrants workers but they are human too …
We also pay tax why u suggest give us part of the land to stay and spend our Sundays . We also human need rest. Instead u complain u suggest good idea how to prevent
Yes… We’re here in Singapore for throwing garbage to let our country reputation embarrassing
Hahaha..KIASU..or whtever..aunties…..gosh..pls..give them some space…..????????
Very sensible comment..that part why only 3k is very correct. It’s NOT enough to sacrifice one’s reputation, pride and job for it.
Blame Singaporean Employers Who Are Responsible For Bringing In these Maids.
If SingaporeHousewives Can Do Their Own Household Chores, WhyNeed Pay These Maids? If These Maids Are Standing Along the Covered Walkway, Why Cannot You walk Outside The Walkway.?
I’m feel sorry to the people who not happy or keep complaining about the open space that Workers use to enjoy the rest day…. be big heart n be kind ….if u unwilling to share that little space for them don’t bring them in to your country as simpal as that
You mention dear complainant it was raining then where you them to stay even a while in that kind of weather?….Are you that mad..
Madam, everybody should looking for nearest shelter when rains come. Except you…. So pardon us if what we do as normal person has disturbed you.
OhhhMyGod pls where did u want the helpers go shoping? Malling? Ofcourse we need to hang out with friends relatives by doing a picnic so we can laugh out loud with freedom for just once in a week. Pls understand shelters s for everyone who needed f it s raining.
A public place is belong to everyone. You complained of noise y don t u stay private place then…where s your humanity?
Discrimination is the worst enemy of all foreign workers. I think there is nothing we do that can please those people who look down on us and think that we should not be there, or any where they can see us. It is common sense that when it is raining, everybody will go find a shelter. We cannot go stand by for a long time in a foodcourt or eatery, so,what they expect us to do? To stay wet under the rain? Suggest then what foreign workers must do in order that we can’t be at public places for your convenience. What we gonna do? I was not there anyway, my off ia during Saturdays at noon only, so, there is no way I’d be anywhere for your annoyance.
Where do they stay in the first place specially rainy days.?banned all the workers, do all your chores instead hhehhe
Here is an amazing solution:
Stop hiring other people to clean your house and look after your children!
Do it yourself you lazy spoiled people
Maids and migrant workers are also human. They need to let out stress Agree that as long as they behave themselves i don’t see that is any issue.
Sometimes you also can see school children in uniform misbehave!
Its true nothing to complain at all its a public place anyone can do what they want.
Whoa so fussy ah. If you outside and rain I bet you also take shelter to nearest one that you can find madam…. aiyoh. Be kind so people will be kind to you too… ????????
Some people have the feeling the world belongs all to them only they have a little more money than others. Maids and migrate workerscare humans too who should enjoy her free time once a week. Shame on people who complain about that
