Jessica Soho has become the first Filipino to be a finalist at the New York Festivals World’s Best Television and Film Awards.

Soho, who has been a broadcast journalist for 30 years in the Philippines, has been nominated as best news anchor in the international competition, GMA News reported.

Soho is competing with Anand Naidoo, an anchor from CGTN America.

Soho’s newscast show called State of the Nation with Jessica Soho: “Marawi Liberation: War is Over” was also nominated as best newscast.

Soho is the Philippines’ most awarded broadcast journalist with 300 local awards and more than 30 international awards. She was also a seven-time recipient of the Most Trusted News Presenter award by Reader’s Digest Asia.

She is also the first Filipino recipient of the Georg Foster Peabody Award for her documentaries on the illegal trade in kidneys and the harrowing plight of Filipino boxers.

The winners of the awards will be announced on April 10.
