An Filipino driver was killed in a truck accident in Saudi Arabia on Sunday morning. At 11am, Calixto Cabanlit, who had worked as a truck driver in Saudi Arabia for 27 years, was driving a water-tank trailer truck on a steep hill in Shaybah, in the country’s southeast, Cebu Daily News reported.
The truck’s engine and brakes malfunctioned, which caused it to roll down the hill uncontrollably, resulting in Cabanlit’s death.
Leonila Cabanlit, the victim’s wife in Oslob, Cebu, said she had contacted her husband’s employer and the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs to arrange for the repatriation of the body.
Jose Mari Salvador, a member of the Cebu Second District Provincial Board, said he was willing to extend assistance to the family.
