A Filipino-American child actor is starring in the Disney film A Wrinkle in Time, directed by Ava DuVernay. Deric McCabe, now 9, started acting in films in 2016. He was cast to play Charles Wallace in the film adaptation of the 1962 novel A Wrinkle in Time, the Manila Bulletin reported.
Deric was born in Montana to a Filipino mother named Judith. His family moved to Los Angeles when he was less than a year old.
He said he had not been to the Philippines but looked forward to doing so when his family travels there. “I have not yet gone to the Philippines but I heard that everything is better there,” he said.
“Just like what the billboards say, it’s more fun in the Philippines,” he said.
Director DuVernay said: “We are so proud of him. First Filipino star of a major studio motion picture in Hollywood. It’s a big deal.”
