The administrator of the estate of a domestic worker killed in Hong Kong three years ago has filed a writ for compensation at the District Court. The domestic worker was killed when a concrete block fell from a building.
On March 11, 2015, Indonesian maid Elis Kurniasih BT Ahi Komarudi, 33, was on the patio of a second floor unit in the Chu Kee Building on King’s Road in North Point when a 100 kilogram concrete block fell from the fifth floor of the building, Sing Pao reported.
Elis had been staying on the patio which was provided by her employment agency while she waited for a new work contract to be approved when the block fell and seriously injured her, the Ming Pao Daily reported. She died six days later in hospital.
According to the writ, the plaintiffs include the deceased, her estate administrator and her dependents. They filed the writ to the District Court to request compensation from the owners of the Chu Kee Building, the Sunlight Employment Agency and two residents who lived in the unit on the fifth floor.
However, the reports did not mention the amount of compensation being sought.
