Chinese smartphone maker and telecoms behemoth Huawei is currently in talks to build a blockchain-ready smartphone, sources say.
Huawei executives met with a team from smartphone developer Sirin Labs, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg, to discuss licensing the Switzerland-based company’s operating system. SIRIN OS would potentially run blockchain applications alongside Alphabet’s Android system.
A caption under a picture on Sirin Labs’ Telegram chat group was quoted as saying, “Amazing meeting just concluded between Sirin Labs and Huawei. Among other things discussed was the possibility of cooperating together to bring blockchain technology to the masses in a secure way.”
Sirin Labs is planning to release its own blockchain-based smartphone, Finney, in the second half of this year. The handset will include, among other cryptocurrency related features, an embedded cold storage crypto wallet and system to convert fiat money to digital tokens.
The company is the owner of the Sirin Labs Token (SRN) cryptocurrency.
