Hong Kong police are hunting for a burglar who managed to break into a three-story luxury home in Sha Tin, New Territories, on Monday despite its being equipped with security cameras and even guard dogs.
When the tenant’s 34-year-old domestic worker got up at 7am, she found that a window had been pried open and the room ransacked. A safe had been stolen from the room, Oriental Daily reported.
The maid checked the other rooms and found that one of them was locked. She called the police, who unlocked the room and found the missing safe, but it had been forced open and emptied.
As the maid’s employer was away from the city, she informed her boss’s sister of the burglary.
The three-story house is on Hang Lok Lane in Sha Tin. It was understood that it was equipped with security cameras and had two guard dogs.
As the female tenant was still out of town, police said it was not yet known what had been stolen. A crime unit of Sha Tin Police District is investigating.
