Police are hunting for a burglar who they think was responsible for scaling bamboo scaffolding and breaking into two apartments in Happy Valley on Hong Kong Island on the weekend.
At 11pm on Saturday night, a 50-year-old man returned home to find his apartment at Park Garden in Tai Hang had been ransacked, the Sing Tao Daily reported. He told police he had lost some valuable Franck Muller and Rolex watches, a pair of diamond rings and pearl necklaces worth about HK$890,000 (US$113,3940).
Police believe the burglar broke into the apartment after scaling bamboo scaffolding that had been erected on the building for maintenance work.
The second burglary was reported at 10am on Sunday at Yik Kwan Villa in Tai Hang, which also had scaffolding erected on the building. A 42-year-old woman found a window in her apartment had been forced open and HK$2,000 in cash and a computer had been taken.
No arrests have been made and the crime unit at Wan Chai Police station is investigating.
