A court in the regional Philippines community of Caloocan City has ordered the arrest of three police officers and their informant over the death of a teenager while they were conducting a drugs raid.
Kian Delos Santos, the 17-year-old son of a domestic worker living in Saudi Arabia, was shot dead on August 16, 2017, while being questioned by officers Arnel Oares, Jeremias Pereda and Jerwin Cruz, Rappler reported. Informant Renato Loveras was also present.
The police claimed Delos Santos had resisted arrest and pulled out a pistol, prompting officer Oares to shoot him in self-defence. They also alleged that Delos Santos possessed gun cartridges and two small packets of methamphetamine.
However, CCTV footage recorded in the area showed Delos Santos being dragged by two policemen dressed in plain clothes to a river, where his body was found. According to media reports, the police planted the pistol and drugs near Delos Santos’ body.
