A 32-year-old American man was arrested in Yung Long, in Hong Kong’s New Territories, on Sunday for suspected child abuse.
At 9pm on Friday, a female neighbor discovered an 11-year-old girl staying alone in a village house in Ma On Kong on Kam Sheung Road in Yuen Long’s Pak Heung area, Oriental Daily reported.
The woman reported the case to the police.
When police arrived, they found evidence that the girl, who held a US passport, had been abused, as there were injuries around her eyes. The girl was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
After an initial investigation, officers arrested her stepfather, an American who holds a Hong Kong identity card, for suspected abuse of the girl.
It was understood that the girl lives with her mother and stepfather in the village house and she had been hit because of behavior and attitude problems.
Yung Long police are investigating the case.
