A Filipino domestic worker faces charges in Dubai for allegedly assaulting her employer’s five-year-old son. In the first week of January, the maid, who had worked for her employer of eight months, slapped and beat the child after he accidentally dropped her phone on the ground, Gulf News reported.
A neighbor witnessed the incident and took the child away from the maid, The National reported.
She informed the boy’s mother of the abuse and kept the boy with her until his mother came home from Abu Dhabi, where she worked.
The mother then reported the case to the police and the maid was arrested.
In Dubai Misdemeanor Court, a medical report confirmed that the child had sustained different injuries. The little boy’s mental and emotional state was affected as well by the abuse he had suffered.
Prosecutors urged the public to report any incidents of child abuse as it is against the law in the United Arab Emirates, legislation meant to ensure the safety and protection of children.
