Police have arrested a 63-year-old dump-truck driver who allegedly hit and killed an elderly woman on Hong Kong Island – then fled the scene on Monday morning.

An 84-year-old woman surnamed Tsang was found unconscious on Aberdeen Main Road at 10am, Ta Kung Pao reported. Paramedics who arrived at the scene pronounced that Tsang was dead.

Police later received a report from a witness that the old woman was hit by a dump-truck when she tried to cross the road at the intersection of Aberdeen Main Road and Tung Shing Road.

The driver of the truck did not stop and Tsang was allegedly dragged 150 meters by the vehicle before it drove away.

There are zebra crossings about every 10 or so meters from where the accident occurred.

After checking surveillance camera footage at a gas station, officers found the dump-truck parked outside Shing Dao Industrial Building on Aberdeen Main Road, Sing Tao Daily reported.

The driver, surnamed Ng, was arrested for alleged dangerous driving causing death.
