Starting on March 18, expatriates will no longer be allowed to work at car-rental companies in Saudi Arabia. Khaled Aba Al-Khail, spokesman for the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, said jobs in car-rental offices would be restricted to Saudi nationals only, Saudi Gazette reported.

Al-Khail said joint inspection teams would monitor vehicle-rental companies for any violations, and fines would be imposed on those found breaching the policy.

Car-rental companies were advised to replace their expat workers with Saudi nationals before March 18.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Development announced last April its decision to limit all jobs in car-rental companies to Saudi nationals as a move toward the country’s National Transformation Program 2020.

About 200,000 part-time and full-time jobs are expected to be available in the public-transport sector over the next three years in line with the goals of Saudi’s Vision 2030, which aims to develop the kingdom as the heart of the Arab and Islamic worlds.
