A 62-year-old Emirati man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping his Filipino domestic worker in Dubai. In December 2016, the 52-year-old woman arrived in the residential community of Al Qusais and started working for the accused, Gulf News reported on Monday.

The Filipino said her employer raped her for the first time last March. He threatened to beat her if she resisted his attacks. In October, she managed to flee from her employer’s home and filed a complaint with police.

The accused told the police that the domestic worker was lying and he never raped her. However, according to a forensic report, his DNA was found in the woman, The Gulf Today reported.

On December 10 in Dubai Criminal Court, the accused was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in jail after he failed to attend any hearings or enter a plea.
