An Indian man faced court in Dubai on Sunday to hear claims that he groped and tried to kiss a Filipino cleaner.

The 20-year-old Filipina was assigned by her supervisor last month to clean a villa in Al Warqa, where she met the accused, Gulf News reported.

The Indian clerk, 28, offered to help the woman clean the ceiling of one bathroom by lifting her up, but she refused. She went to a second bathroom and was surprised to see the man waiting there for her.

The clerk hugged her, groped her and tried to kiss her lips – but the woman pushed him away and locked herself in the first bathroom, then called her supervisor for help.

The supervisor picked her up and they reported the incident to the police.

On Sunday, at the Dubai Court of First Instance, the clerk was accused of molesting the cleaner. During the hearing, the supervisor told the court the owner of the villa had apologized and paid her 200 dirhams (US$55) to keep quiet about the incident.

A ruling on the case will be announced on February 20.
