The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has warned overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) not to take cigarettes or any other tobacco-related items to Qatar.
The POEA said OFWs and other passengers going to Qatar would be subject to legal liability if they were in possession of any items related to tobacco usage.
“OFWs are advised to be wary of these prohibitions and should never attempt to carry any of these banned products when traveling to Qatar,” the POEA said in an advisory.
The banned items are chewing tobacco in any form, electronic cigarettes, swaika (a substance made from tobacco products), cigarette machines, electronic shisha (including hookahs), and any product similar to these or made from any form of tobacco.
“Those found violating the relevant articles face imprisonment not exceeding six months and fines not exceeding 100,000 Qatari riyals,” or US$27,460, the POEA said.
