A Filipino domestic worker was rescued by Philippine government officials after being abused and starved by her male employer in Kuwait.

The maid’s aunt in the Philippines, Jane Continente, reported her case to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), GMA News reported.

Continente said her niece went to Kuwait last March. She said the male employer started beating her niece after he found out that she was contacting her family.

Her niece was locked in the house and only fed one meal a day.

OWWA staff were able to locate the domestic worker and organize for her to be rescued. She claimed the man who employed her had also beaten his wife.

Hans Cacdac, the administrator of OWWA, said the woman would be taken to a hospital in Kuwait for immediate medical attention.
