A 77-year-old woman was arrested for alleged assault causing bodily harm to a domestic worker on Friday evening in the New Territories.
Police arrested the elderly woman surnamed Lee in a flat at Wo Che Estate in Sha Tin after receiving a report that an Indonesian maid working in the flat was suspected to have been abused, Oriental Daily reported.
It was understood that the maid, who was bleeding and had injuries to her hands, went to a neighbor after the assault and asked them for help. The neighbor reported the case to police.
The Indonesian worker was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin for medical treatment.
The neighbor told the media the maid had been employed for two months but her elderly employer had a very bad attitude toward her. Besides scolding, the old woman purportedly hit the worker.
Sha Tin Police are following up the case.
Domestic helpers are particularly vulnerable to abuse because they are trapped in the homes of low class employers who have a perfect victim on whom to vent their spite and racism. It’s all about power.

Many old age here in hk are heartless but based on my experience some of them are ksp or kulang sa pansin and are hopeless due some problems.we can understand them but they can’t understand us, because for them we are just a servant.just sayin
