The Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong is arranging documents to send back the body of a Filipino maid who died at work.
The victim reportedly had two sons, aged 21 and 20, in the Philippines. The eldest will fly to Hong Kong to bring his mother’s body home, sunwebhk.com reported.
Just before 8am on Saturday, the 43-year-old victim named Elma, a domestic worker from Bohol, collapsed while cleaning her employer’s car on the first-floor carpark at Wo Che Estate in Sha Tin.
People at the carpark saw her lying unconscious beside her cleaning equipment and called for an ambulance. She was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital but pronounced dead after initially being resuscitated.
People on social media speculated that the victim fainted due to starvation or being overworked, but one of her friends said Elma was suffering from an illness that she had kept secret. She also said Elma’s employers were kind to her.
Police are investigating the cause of her death.
