Chinese netizens have had a field day spreading news and commenting on the marriage of Japanese porn star and nude model turned celebrity Sola Aoi.

Aoi, 34, is now a hot TV personality thanks to the many adult videos that she starred in during her decade-long career. The shapely and adorable actress became the darling of a large male audience after her 2002 debut in Japan’s adult entertainment sector.

Aoi also shot to fame in China when many erotic X-rated movies were pirated and streamed on forums in the country. Aoi then became a household name.

On Monday, Aoi announced on several social-media platforms, including China’s Twitter-like Sina, where she commands a following of 17 million fans, that she had tied the knot.

“Thank you for your continuous support. Actually I have BIG news. I got married, but I do not change myself. It is the same SOLA AOI as yesterday,” wrote Aoi, next to a photo showing her glittering wedding ring.

A guessing game was on as to who the groom was, after the former “goddess of AV” dropped the bombshell.

Much of the curiosity centered on the question of why a man would marry a porn star who had slept with different partners and appeared in productions deemed as coarse, lascivious and orgy-like by the prevailing social norms, since it is regarded as a humiliation in China if a man marries a “promiscuous” woman.

It was later revealed that Aoi’s Mr Right is a DJ who works in Tokyo, an ordinary-looking, average Joe of modest means but who is open-minded and doesn’t mind his bride’s past career.

“After repeated discussions with my agent, I’ve decided to make public my marriage,” Aoi said in a post, stressing that she does not regret her porn career and that she is grateful to her newlywed husband.

She also said she expected to have babies.

Responses from her Chinese fans have been mostly positive, with many wishing her the best, though many lament the end of a “legend” who “enlightened” and “comforted” numerous young men in a country that still doesn’t have a movie and video rating system and bans the open display and sale of adult content, coupled with a lack of sex education.

Aoi long ago quit her AV career in a crossover into the mainstream entertainment sector and has since appeared in some movies and TV dramas. She visits China often, attending numerous events along with other stars.
