A 37-year-old woman was arrested by the police after the dismembered body of her daughter was found in a subdivided apartment in Mong Kok, Kowloon, on Sunday.

At 10pm, police went to the apartment in the Man Fook Building on Canton Road after receiving a report that the woman had refused to return a mobile phone to a neighbor, Headline Daily reported.

The neighbor confronted her outside her apartment and saw blood on the floor, then called the police.

After police officers arrived, the woman refused to open the door. After forcibly entering the 60-square-foot cubicle, they found a 12-year-old girl’s body parts in the bathtub. Some of the body parts had reportedly clogged the drain, causing flooding inside the unit.

Police removed 11 bags of body parts from the scene and seized a cleaver, two phones and a bottle of bleach.

It was understood that the woman moved to Hong Kong from mainland China four years ago and divorced. Police sources said she worked as a night-shift masseuse. She had no history of mental illness but allegedly has substance-abuse issues, Apple Daily reported.

Police were trying to find the father of the dead girl. She had attended Tong Mei Road Government Primary School. The vice-principal said she had been a hard-working, active and friendly student.
